Julia Obert distinguishes herself as a singer through her lyrical, intimate sound, technical excellence, captivating stage presence, and remarkable musicality, enabling her to work across a diverse musical spectrum - from opera stage to concert and lied repertoire.
In the 2018/2019 season, Julia Obert made her debut at the Frankfurt Opera as Susanna in the children’s opera “The Marriage of Figaro” (W. A. Mozart). In September 2019, she performed as a soloist in the ballet opera production of “Orphée et Eurydice” (Gluck/Neumeier) at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. During the 2019/2020 and 2021/2022 seasons, she returned to Frankfurt Opera as Donna Anna in the children’s opera “Don Giovanni” (W. A. Mozart).
The focus of her work is on concert performance, where she has acquired an extensive repertoire. She has performed nearly all standard major oratorio roles - ranging from the Baroque period to contemporary compositions.
Julia Obert appears as a concert soloist throughout Germany, France, and Italy. She has frequently performed as a soloist at Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, most recently singing the soprano solo in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in December 2023. That same year, she made her solo debut at the Heidelberger Frühling alongside pianist Anne Le Bozec and at the Baroque Festival of the State Theater Darmstadt. Her active concert career has also led her to venues such as Ruhrfestspielhaus Recklinghausen, the Festival of European Church Music Schwäbisch Gmünd, Diademus Festival Roggenburg, Die Glocke Bremen and Hamburg State Opera.
In 2021, Julia Obert was one of 20 finalists in the ARD International Music Competition (Voice). In early 2022, she reached the finals of the 13th Concorso Internazionale di Canto Lirico “Omaggio a Maria Callas - Città di Brescia”. At the “Medici International Music Competition 2022” in London, she won a first prize in July 2022. She is a scholarship recipient of the Richard Wagner Association and performs as a soloist with the Vocal Ensemble Rastatt (directed by Holger Speck), appearing regularly in concerts, CD, and radio productions.
She has collaborated with conductors such as Alessandro de Marchi and Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
In 2011, she was an ensemble member of the Junge Oper Stuttgart before studying music education and German language/literature at the University of Music Karlsruhe and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). In 2015, she began her artistic vocal studies (Bachelor) and pedagogical voice training with Prof. Holger Speck, completing both with distinction in February 2018. She continued her master's studies with Prof. Snezana Stamenković (University of Music Mannheim), graduating again with top honors in December 2020 for her final recital.
Her artistic development has been enriched by masterclasses with renowned artists including KS Brigitte Fassbaender, Dame Felicity Lott, Teresa Berganza, Charlotte Lehmann, Franz Hawlata, Prof. Ulrike Sonntag, Anne Grappotte, Helmut Lachenmann, and KS Ulrike Steinsky. In 2017, she and her pianist Magdalena Wolfarth participated in the 8th German Lied Academy, working with Axel Bauni, Ulrich Eisenlohr, Anne Le Bozec, Peter Nelson, and Eric Battaglia. The lied duo has performed recitals in Germany and abroad and will release their first joint CD in 2025.
Julia Obert has appeared at the opera schools in Karlsruhe and Mannheim and in the lied class of Prof. Mitsuko Shirai and Prof. Hartmut Höll, with whom she has given several joint recitals and concerts.
Das Leben ein Gesang
Daß mein Leben ein Gesang,
Sag' ich's nur! geworden;
Jeder Sturm und jeder Drang
Dient ihm zu Akkorden.
Was mir nicht gesungen ist,
Ist mir nicht gelebet;
Was noch nicht bezwungen ist,
Sei noch angestrebet!
Von der Welt, die mich umringt,
Wüßt' ich unbezwingbar
Wen'ges nur; die Seele klingt,
Und die Welt ist singbar.
